PSHE

“If you have good thoughts they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.”

– Roald Dah

At RL Hughes Primary School our PSHE curriculum is taught in the context of three core themes: health and wellbeing, relationships and living in the wider world. Through these we aim to develop skills and attributes such as self-esteem, resilience, team working and critical thinking. We also provide our children with opportunities to learn about what it means to be a member of a diverse society and pupils are encouraged to develop their sense of self-worth by playing a positive role in contributing to school life and the wider community.

We deliver our PSHE curriculum in a variety of ways - making use of links with other areas of the curriculum wherever possible. The HEARTSMART programme is delivered throughout school alongside PHSE lessons, assemblies and our digital literacy curriculum, which covers aspects of responsible internet use and e-safety. These lessons are supplemented by a wide range of visitors, school visits, a weekly debate and newspaper club and theme weeks such as mental health week, money week and anti-bullying week.

At RL Hughes Primary School we believe that PSHE is integral to the development of children’s values in order for them to become a positive citizen in an ever-changing world.
