Science

“The important thing is to never stop questioning”

Albert Einstein

The teaching of science at R L Hughes aims to give all children a strong understanding of the world around them whilst acquiring specific skills and knowledge to help them to think scientifically, to gain an understanding of scientific processes and also an understanding of the uses and implications of Science, today and for the future. Children are also taught about the scientific achievements of many high profile scientists and how their work has shaped the world that we live in.

Scientific enquiry skills and scientific vocabulary are embedded in each topic throughout a progressive science curriculum.  All children are encouraged to develop and use a range of skills including observations, planning and investigations, as well as being encouraged to question the world around them and become independent learners in exploring possible answers for their scientific based questions.

The science curriculum at R L Hughes is supported with enrichment activities such as visitors, trips and theme days. Our wonderful school grounds and local environment also provide many rich learning experiences which develops the awe and wonder associated with scientific discovery. As a result, science at R L Hughes is contextualised into everyday life and experienced through first hand experiences.
