Letter for opening in September

24 August 2020 (by Ben Kilburn (MrKilburn))

Dear Parents and Carers Before we return to school on WEDNESDAY 2ND SEPTEMBER, I thought you might appreciate me sharing some of our initial plans for the children’s return to school in September.

I want to say a huge thank you to you all for supporting your children and the school during the lockdown period. Your patience, understanding, kind gestures and words of encouragement have meant such a lot.

Please be aware these plans are always subject to change.

ALL CHILDREN WILL BE ABLE TO RETURN TO SCHOOL IN SEPTEMBER BUBBLES:

We will have four ‘bubbles’ in school made up of each phase:
 Early Years (nursery & reception) bubble
 KS1 (year 1 & year 2) bubble
 Lower KS2 (year 3 & year 4) bubble
 Upper KS2 (year 5 & year 6) bubble

SOCIAL DISTANCING: Children will not be expected to socially distance within their bubbles. This is in line with the
guidance released from the government.
SCHOOL UNIFORM: All children will be asked to return to school in uniform in line with our policy as set out on the
school website.
PE DAYS: On the days that children have PE we will allow them to come to school wearing their school PE kit, including
joggers (as stated in our uniform policy). This will be for the Autumn term and will be reviewed at Christmas.
PERSONAL ITEMS: Children will be encouraged to bring minimal items into school. We will ask them to bring a labelled
water bottle into school and a book bag for their reading book. Please do not send rucksacks and other bags in from
home.
LUNCHTIME ARRANGEMENTS: We look forward to welcoming our catering team back in September. Lunchtimes will
be arranged in order that only bubbles will sit together. We will be in a position to offer school meals from September but
the choice will be greatly reduced to one hot option or sandwiches. This menu will remain the same for the whole of the
Autumn Term.
ACCESS INTO SCHOOL: Sadly, we do not anticipate being in a position to be able to welcome parents into the school
building in September. We have put safety precautions in place in our main reception for any parents needing to come to
the main reception. However, we ask that parents and carers remain respectful of social distancing and only come in to
reception if it is absolutely necessary. The school office telephone number is 01942701147.
WHOLE SCHOOL EVENTS: There will be no whole school events for the Autumn term. This will mean there will be no
whole school assemblies, Meet the Teacher meetings or Pupil Review meetings. You will receive a letter from your child’s
teacher at the beginning of the term to update you with any information you require about their new class.

START AND FINISH TIMES: At this stage we do not anticipate needing staggered start or finish times. Staggered starts
and finishes create problems for parents and carers of children in different year groups. So instead of this, we are
opening school from 8.40 – 9.00 a.m. to allow the children a 20 minute slot to filter in and at the end of the day, you can
collect your child between 2.50 – 3.10 p.m. to relieve congestion at the end of the day.

When you are dropping off or collecting your child(ren), please leave the school premises as quickly as possible to ease
any congestion and be respectful of people’s space. We hope that parents of older children will feel happy to say
goodbye to their children at the school gates.

DROP OFF AND COLLECTION POINTS:
Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 will all be dropped off and collected from the usual places. There will be a one
way system in place to avoid any congestion and maintain social distancing. We are having major roofing works at the
moment on the KS1 building. This is due to be finished in a few weeks but in the meantime please look out for signs
directing you which way to go during the first few days.
 Nursery: Nursery building
 RR: adjacent to the staff carpark
 RL: follow the one way system to the first classroom around the main building
 Year 1: KS1 playground, Year 1 doors
 Year 2: KS1 playground, Year 2 doors
 Year 3: drop off and collect around the back of the KS2 building on the Year 3/4 playground
 Year 4: drop off and collect from the Arena
 Year 5: drop off and collect from outside the Year 5 classrooms
 Year 6: drop off and collect from the front Y5/6 playground
FIRST STEPS: Will be operating as normal from Wednesday 2nd September. Please telephone the staff directly on 01942
711964 to discuss / arrange breakfast or afterschool placements.

COMMUNICATION WITH SCHOOL/TEACHERS:
In order to comply with social distancing requirements, parents will not be allowed in the school building. If you wish to
speak to your child’s teacher, please do so at the classroom door at the beginning or end of the school day, maintaining
distance and staying outside. If you need an appointment, then please telephone school and arrange to speak to a
member of staff at a mutually convenient time. Please continue to use Class Dojo in the usual manner. Parents can come
into the school office, but please ensure only one person at a time.

FINALLY:
We appreciate that some families may feel anxious about their children returning to school in September. We have
worked hard to give you as much information as we can to prepare you and your children for September. If you haven’t
seen our transition pages on the school website, can I please direct you to the CLASSES tab where you will find a page
called TRANSITION 2020 TO 2021. These pages are currently work-in-progress. Staff are working hard to update them
with videos, photographs, topic summaries etc to help alleviate any anxieties your children might have.
I promise that we will continue to work very hard to ensure we support every individual family on your return to some sort
of normality.

Kind regards
Mrs M Middlehurst
